So much has been happening that my Blog has been a bit neglected!
My first Sydney Royal went smoothly, with Beaks travelling up from VIC patiently and arriving in Sydney in the pouring rain. After a few days recovery at my parents house, we drove into the showgrounds to get ready for our big Sydney debut.
My stress levels were high and I was feeling very nervous from the moment I arrived - until I had my first walk around on Beacon. I couldn't believe how well he behaved and how chilled out he was - we could have been walking around cattle in the paddock at home rather than facing crowds, noise, cows behind hessian, Clydesdales, ponies in carts, kids with balloons, prams, scooters, in season mares, showjumpers, golf buggies, drains, and much much more.
I was super pleased with his manners and obedience in the Hack Ring, unfortunately we did not get called in but he worked really well and returned to his stable on a loose rein and happy. The working was the following day, and even with a slight pilot error on the pattern interpretation, Beaks did all that was asked of him and ended up placed 5th overall behind seasoned competitors and very high calibre horses.
A very successful and fun show and I am so proud of the way I presented and displayed Beaks - he tried his heart out and that's all I can ever ask. Now for a holiday before working harder and coming back bigger and better next season. :)
